Petitions: Where to Find Them, and Where to Sign Them (#BlackLivesMatter)

black lives matters petitions

As promised, here’s a collection of petitions you can [and absolutely should] be signing right now. I’ll be updating this as I find more, and I’ll also be posting more resource lists on my website in the coming days/weeks/months/etc. If you’re searching for ways you can help or more places to find information, check back soon or try this page on for size.

I know this probably feels like a lot, but in the greater scope of things, it really isn’t.

Just stay with me and power through; sign every single one of these.

Basic human rights above all else, you know?

And, if you have a few extra seconds…

Demand Bloch Ballet start including women of color

If you’re not sure why I’d include this one, here’s two threads where you can read up on [some of] the pain of this microaggression/lack of inclusion as frequently endured by dancers of color.

The Original Twitter thread

The horrible behavior I witnessed towards my black teammates when I was a dancer (including the shoe thing)

I know that’s a lot of petitions. I know it can feel tiring to sign so many. I know starts to think you’re a robot after a while and makes things a little difficult.

Here’s a few tips to help you power through:

  • Think of this giant [and hardly comprehensive] list of petitions not as a chore, but rather as evidence of the amount of horrific injustice going on in this world… Only to be swept under the rug by a system that entirely supports white privilege over the basic human rights of black people. This list of petitions only begins to shine light on a much bigger issue.
  • Remember that anything you are able to do is essential in the battle for human rights. Sure, signing the petitions can be a little tiring, but consider the small task of signing them versus the agony dealt with by the wronged people in these petitions, as well as their family and friends.
  • Maybe you’re the kind of person who likes to do things in one or two sit-down sessions. Maybe you’re the type who likes to handle a few things at a time and in short increments, perhaps even over your morning coffee. Figure out your most efficient system, and follow through. It’s not the same for everyone, but it is required across the board.
  • No matter what, remember that signing every single one of these petitions is absolutely mandatory. It may sound harsh, but it’s the truth. The reality is that the world can be a truly horrible place, and it’s essential for white and non-black PoC to do whatever we can #ForBlackLives not just in this moment, but in the future as well.
